A suspected honour killing case has come to light in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after a youth approached SSP Anurag Arya and alleged that his girlfriend had been murdered by her family over their relationship.
The Class 10 student had reportedly been missing since July 28. The youth told police that he feared her family had killed her and buried her body in an agricultural field.
Police Recover Body From Field
Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and detained the girl’s uncle, identified in reports as Jai Prakash. Police subsequently obtained permission from the District Magistrate and exhumed a decomposed body from a deep pit in an agricultural field near the village.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination, while DNA samples were also collected to establish the identity. The Times of India reported that the body was recovered following the investigation into the girl’s disappearance.
Uncle Arrested In Murder Case
According to reports, the girl’s uncle allegedly confessed during questioning that family members had strangled the teenager and buried her body. Police suspect opposition to her relationship as a possible motive.
An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions relating to murder and destruction of evidence. The uncle has been arrested and sent to jail, while some reports said the girl’s parents were absconding.
Video Shows Boy’s Plea For Police Action
A video related to the case has also surfaced, highlighting the youth’s appeal to the Bareilly SSP for help after he lost contact with the girl.
The alleged circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death remain under investigation. Police are awaiting the complete post-mortem and forensic findings before establishing the exact cause of death and determining the involvement of other family members.
Probe Underway Into Suspected Honour Killing
Police have described the case as a suspected honour killing. However, the exact circumstances of the girl’s death and the complete list of accused are yet to be conclusively established.
The investigation is continuing, with forensic evidence and the post-mortem report expected to provide further clarity.
