The Uttar Pradesh government has announced an increase in the marriage assistance amount provided to daughters from the Other Backward Classes (OBC). The grant, previously set at ₹20,000, will now be raised to ₹35,000. Backward Class Welfare Minister Narendra Kashyap confirmed the decision, stating that the proposal is currently being finalized and will soon be implemented. He noted that the revision was made in light of rising inflation and to offer more substantial support to economically weaker families. A provision of ₹200 crore has been allocated in the state budget for this initiative.

In addition to this, the financial aid under the Mass Marriage Scheme has also been revised. The total benefit under this scheme is now ₹1 lakh, up from ₹51,000. Of this, ₹60,000 is transferred directly into the bride’s bank account, ₹25,000 is allocated for wedding materials, and ₹15,000 is used for organizing the ceremony. Items like bedding, fan, pillow, and bed sheets are also included.

Eligibility criteria include a minimum age of 18 years for the bride and 21 for the groom. Applicants are required to submit Aadhaar cards, income and caste certificates, and bank passbook copies via the official portal.
