The Uttar Pradesh government has developed over 100 Yoga Parks across the state in preparation for the 11th International Yoga Day, to be observed on June 21, 2025. The initiative, aligned with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, aims to promote holistic wellness by making yoga a permanent part of urban community life.

According to the Urban Development Department, each urban local body has been directed to develop designated Yoga Parks equipped with basic amenities like drinking water, seating, and spaces suitable for conducting regular yoga sessions. These parks are not limited to a one-day event but are intended to function as year-round wellness hubs.

In Varanasi, yoga sessions will take place at Shaheed Udyan, Beniya Bagh Park, Harishchandra Park, and prominent ghats like Namo, Assi, and Ravidas. Agra has seen the development of Yoga Parks at Balkeshwar, Central Park (Awas Vikas), Kalindi Park, and the Municipal Corporation Office Park.

Lucknow now hosts nine Yoga Parks, including Swarn Jayanti Park and Jhande Wala Park, while Kanpur’s venues include Nana Rao Park, Buddha Park, and Parshuram Vatika. Jhansi leads in numbers, with 12 parks developed, followed by Mathura-Vrindavan, Ghaziabad, and Ayodhya and Firozabad with three each.

As per Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat, the parks have been developed in accordance with guidelines set by the Ministry of Ayush and this year’s Yoga Day theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The state intends for these parks to continue promoting physical and mental well-being beyond June 21. Officials including District Magistrates and Municipal Commissioners have been instructed to ensure the parks remain operational with clean and safe infrastructure.

This initiative marks a shift from symbolic celebration to sustained public health engagement.
