A disturbing video has surfaced on social media showing a man running to the hospital carrying the motionless body of an eight-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur.
According to reports, the girl seen in the video had fallen into an open drain in the Tiwarpur police station area of Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation. Bystanders got her out of the drain and rushed her to the hospital, but it was too late and doctors declared her dead.
The victim has been identified as Afreen, daughter of Anis who lives in Lala Toli in the Ghosipur neighbourhood of Tiwarpur police station area. The incident took place on Monday, when the girl was on her way home from the madrasa. Afreen, who was wading through dirty rainwater flooded on the road amid heavy rain, fell into the open drain after her foot slipped.
Locals pulled her out and took her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Local residents are outraged by this incident. They allege that safety standards were ignored during the construction of the drain.
Additional City Commissioner Nirankar Singh called this incident "extremely sad" and said that the corporation is deeply hurt by this incident and stands with the grieving family in this hour of sorrow.
Singh said, "This is a heart-wrenching incident. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report. Based on the report, we will take all necessary and impartial action."
The Additional City Commissioner said that prima facie the matter appears serious. He assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted from every aspect.
