Two young street food vendors in Noida died from carbon monoxide poisoning after they left chickpeas cooking overnight on a gas stove in their rented accommodation. The victims, Upendra (22) and Shivam (23), who ran a 'chole bhature' and kulcha stall, were found unconscious in their room in Basai village, Sector 70.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajiv Gupta, Noida Central Zone, "Since the door of the house was shut, it led to a shortage of oxygen in the room. This combined with the smoke from the burning food resulted in a large amount of carbon monoxide in the house."

Neighbours discovered the tragedy when they noticed smoke coming from the house. They broke down the door and rushed the unconscious men to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. Police confirmed that no injury marks were found on the bodies, which have been sent for post-mortem examination.

The incident highlights the dangers of carbon monoxide, an odorless poisonous gas produced by burning fuel in stoves, ovens, grills, and other appliances. The gas can become lethal when it builds up in enclosed spaces with inadequate ventilation, particularly where oxygen levels are low.
