Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a three-day visit to Assam and Mizoram for a series of events. He will be received in Assam by BJP State President Dilip Saikia and several senior ministers of the Assam government.

Shah is set to arrive in Jorhat on Friday night at Rowriah Airport and will head to the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, where he will inaugurate new buildings of the academy on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal.

Security measures have been tightened for Shah’s arrival in Assam.

Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika announced that Bhutan Police will undergo training at the state-of-the-art Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Assam.

The minister highlighted this as a moment of great pride, further strengthening Assam’s role in bolstering security forces across borders.

“It is a matter of great pride for us as recently new recruits of the Manipur Police were trained at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy. Now, Goa Police is also getting trained here, and I have come to know that even Bhutan Police will also come to the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy for training,” Hazarika stated while interacting with the media.

Hazarika further emphasized that the academy has grown into one of the finest police training institutions in India, setting high standards in law enforcement training.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the new building, to be inaugurated by Shah, has been constructed by the Assam government and will feature state-of-the-art facilities, similar to those at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad.

Notably, the first phase of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy’s construction cost Rs 167.4 crore, while the second phase, which includes a housing project, is estimated at Rs 425.48 crore.

It may be recalled that in 2024, Manipur Police personnel underwent training at the academy, while 700 Goa Police personnel are currently receiving training. According to sources, Bihar Police personnel are also expected to undergo training at the academy soon.

Following the inauguration of the Dergaon police academy, Shah will visit Aizawl for an event of the Assam Rifles.

On March 16, the Union Home Minister will attend the 57th conference of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) at Dotma in Kokrajhar.

Further, Shah will convene a meeting in Guwahati with the Chief Ministers of northeastern states to review the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on March 16.
