Chennai: BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday exuded confidence declaring that the BJP-AIADMK alliance will defeat the DMK government in the 2026 Assembly elections and come to power in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing the party’s functionaries at a meeting in the temple town of Madurai, Shah said: “This Karyakarta Sammelan of ours will be the reason behind the fall of the DMK government. In 2026, Tamil Nadu will elect an NDA government once again, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party and AIADMK.”

Taking a direct jab at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, who had previously commented on the BJP’s inability to defeat the DMK, Shah responded by saying, “Stalin Ji, you are right — I cannot defeat the DMK. But the people of Tamil Nadu can. Having participated in elections across the country, I know the pulse of the public. And this time, the people of Tamil Nadu will uproot the DMK government.”

In his address he included a message of solidarity with the people of Tamil Nadu, praising their support during the Tiranga Yatras after Operation Sindoor and acknowledging their patriotism.

In a scathing attack on the DMK government, Shah highlighted several alleged corruption scandals, including a ₹4,600 crore sand mining scam, a ₹39,000 crore liquor scam, and irregularities in the distribution of nutrition kits meant for the poor.

“The DMK government has crossed all limits of corruption. This money could have been used to build new classrooms in every primary school of Tamil Nadu. Instead, it was looted by the government,” he charged. He criticised “rising incidents” of caste-based violence and crimes against women and the elderly, accusing the state government of turning a blind eye to these issues.

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in propelling India’s economy from $1.9 trillion to $4.19 trillion in just over a decade. He stated, “Modi Ji has shown what true development looks like.” He contrasted this with the UPA government, which, according to him, had given Tamil Nadu ₹1.53 lakh crore in 10 years, while the BJP-led government has provided ₹6.80 lakh crore in the same period, along with substantial investments in infrastructure such as roads, railways, and airports.
