Angry over an unfavourable judgment, a man threatened and abused a woman judge in an open courtroom. The accused had been convicted in a six-year-old cheque bounce case by the judge, according to reports.

“Tu hai kya cheez… tu bahar mil, dekhte hain kaise zinda ghar jaati hai (Who even are you… just meet me outside, and let’s see how you make it back home alive),” the accused reportedly said as Delhi judge Shivangi Mangla passed the conviction order on April 2.

The convict and his lawyer allegedly demanded that the judge step down from her position, threatening to file a complaint that would force her resignation if she refused.

“They subjected me to mental and physical harassment, pressuring me to resign from my position. They further harassed me to acquit the accused, threatening to file complaints against me and orchestrate my forced resignation if I didn’t comply,” the judge stated in her official order.

She has escalated the matter to the District and Sessions Judge for forwarding to the Delhi High Court for appropriate proceedings. The judge also recommended that the National Commission for Women take suitable action against the accused.

Additionally, she issued a showcause notice to the convict’s attorney, Atul Kumar, requiring him to explain why criminal contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.

Earlier, on April 5, the judge had sentenced the accused to 22 months of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6.65 lakh in the cheque bounce case.
