Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinhaon Wednesday supported implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at Uttarakhand.
Talking to the media, Sinha said that there are certain ‘loopholes’ in UCC which should be amended before its implementation.
“Implementation of UCC should not be seen as a poll plank but an all-party meeting should be called to address the loopholes in UCC and also to ensure broad consensus before its implementation. What happened in Uttarakhand as a nation we should acknowledge it as necessary,” said Sinha. The actor-turned-politician also mentioned that non-vegetarian should be ‘banned’ in the country.
“If beef is banned it should be uniform throughout the country and not in certain states. A friend of mine said if you eat beef in the North East it is considered to be ‘yummy’ and in North India it is ‘mummy’. My personal opinion is that non-vegetarian food should be banned in the country,” further mentioned Sinha.
Notably, during the Lok Sabha election campaign, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had several times slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for banning non-vegetarian food in certain states.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that one should have the liberty to choose what he/she will eat. “In the free country we all have the right to decide what we will eat and wear. No one in particular can dump certain things on us,” added Ghosh.
