Srinagar: In a significant development following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, security forces have uncovered an underground terror hideout in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

The joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police led to the recovery of five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two wireless communication sets, and other materials, thwarting a potential terror plot in the region.

IEDs Concealed in Household Items

The operation, conducted in the forested area of Surankote, revealed IEDs ingeniously hidden within everyday items, three concealed in tiffin boxes and two in steel buckets. This discovery underscores the adaptive tactics employed by terrorist elements to evade detection.

Security forces have intensified counter-terrorism operations across Jammu and Kashmir, targeting known terrorist sympathisers and dismantling support networks. The crackdown aims to prevent further attacks and dismantle the infrastructure facilitating terrorism in the region.

Ceasefire Violations Escalate Along the LoC

Concurrently, tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) have escalated, with Pakistani troops engaging in unprovoked firing across multiple sectors, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. This marks the 11th consecutive night of ceasefire violations, prompting the Indian Army to respond proportionately to safeguard its positions.

The Pahalgam attack on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, has significantly strained India-Pakistan relations. India has attributed the attack to cross-border elements, leading to diplomatic and economic repercussions, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the expulsion of diplomats.

As security forces continue their operations to neutralise threats and restore stability, the situation remains tense, with heightened vigilance along the LoC and within Jammu and Kashmir.
