Chennai: Attending the birthday party of a senior boy in school without the knowledge of her parents turned to be a nightmarish experience for a class 10 girl, who was gang-raped by three juvenile boys in rural Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu.

The girl, studying in a State Government school, had gone to attend a birthday celebrations organised by a class 12 boy of her school on the campus after school hours some days ago. The celebrations were captured on a mobile phone by some of those who attended the party. Knowing that the girl had attended the party without her parent’s consent, three of her classmates showed the video to her and threatened to send it to her parents.

Police said when the girl pleaded with the boys to delete the video, they claimed the mobile phone was at the house of one of the boys and asked her come there. At the house, the three allegedly gang-raped her and also filmed the assault to buy her silence.

The boys, however, shared the video clip of the sexual assault to another boy who had previously studied in the school.

“Seeing the girl in a depressed state of mind, her parents prodded her to share what was bothering her. The girl then informed them she was blackmailed and gang-raped by her classmates, who then lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday,” a senior police officer in Cuddalore said. The police arrested the three boys, all juveniles and also the 17-year-old past student of the school with whom the video clip was shared.

“Considering they are minors, the boys have been sent to an observation home,” Cuddalore Superintendent of Police Sakthi Ganesan said.

Cases have been booked against the accused under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Indian Penal Code.
