New Delhi: Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan on Wednesday, during the discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha, raised questions about the naming of India's counterstrike operation "Operation Sindoor."
Bachhan said, "Ek toh main aap logo ko badhai dungi, ki aapne aise lekhakon ko rakha hua hai, jo bade bade naam dete hai, ye naam Sindoor diya kyu?"
Which roughly translates to, "First of all, I would like to congratulate you for hiring such writers who come up with such grand names, but why was the name 'Sindoor' chosen?"
Bacchan further said, "Sindoor toh ujad gaya logo ka, jo mare gaye jinki patniya reh gayi." Which roughly translates to, "The sindoor (vermilion) has been wiped away for those whose husbands were killed."
Netizens React
The clip quickly went viral on social media, triggering responses from Netizens on X.
One of the user said, "Sindoor to ujad gaya, toh army operation ka naam operation Sindoor kyu (Why did you name it 'Sindoor'? Sindoor has been wiped off already)- SP MP Jaya Bacchan What to say..."
Another user shared a different clip from her speech where Bachchan can be heard telling Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi not to control her. To which the UBT MP can be seen controlling her laugh by covering her face with her hands.
Feels Like A Book/Film
Bachchan in her speech, speaking about the Pahalgam attack, said, "It feels strange to say this because whatever happened ... it felt like something out of a book or a film ... people came like this, killed so many people, and yet nothing happened. It's really unreal.”
