Greater Noida: A video of the angry mother of the second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student who died by suicide inside the Sharda University campus in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, due to alleged mental harassment by professors has surfaced. The mother of the deceased student, Jyoti Sharma, allegedly slapped the head of the university's dentistry department.
Video Of HOD Getting Slapped Goes Viral
A video showing the student's mother slapping the HOD of Sharda University’s dentistry department has surfaced and gone viral. In the video, the deceased student's angry mother and other protesters can be seen engaged in a heated argument with the HOD. During the altercation, the mother slapped the HOD, after which others in the crowd also began attacking him.
The video further shows police intervening to control the angry crowd and using mild force to disperse the crowd.
Police Action
Based on a complaint filed by the student’s family, police registered an FIR and arrested both the accused faculty members under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to abetment of suicide.
About The Case
A second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student of Sharda University allegedly died by suicide late Friday night in the girls' hostel located at the university campus in Greater Noida's Knowledge Park, police said on Saturday.
The student was found hanging in her room. Upon receiving the information, the Knowledge Park Kotwali police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.
Suicide Note Recovered
According to police officials, a suicide note was recovered from the student's room, in which she accused one male and one female faculty member of the university's dental department of mentally harassing her.
Protest For Justice
As news of the suicide spread, students in the hostel erupted in protest, raising slogans against the university administration late into the night and demanding a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
