A road accident left several schoolchildren injured after a high-speed container truck collided with a stationary school van in Kannauj on Monday. The incident, captured on CCTV, occurred near Kannauj Hospital on the Chibramau Saurikh Road, and the footage has since gone viral on social media.
The video shows the speeding truck slamming into the parked school van, causing it to overturn. Moments after the collision, thick smoke began billowing from the van, triggering panic among bystanders. According to reports, the children inside the van, along with the driver, sustained injuries in the crash.
Upon hearing the children's screams, a group of Kanwariyas—pilgrims carrying Ganga water—rushed to the scene to help rescue the trapped students. The injured were quickly transported to the 100-bed hospital in Nagla Dilu on private bikes. Thirteen children and the van driver were admitted, while five others with more serious injuries were referred to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment.
The school van, operated by MS Education Centre in Sardapur, Saurikh, was being driven by 35-year-old Ramu Singh, a resident of Tulsipur village. He had picked up students from Brahimpur village and was en route to Saurikh when the collision occurred. Witnesses reported that the container truck, travelling at high speed from the opposite direction, crashed into the van near Kannauj Hospital.
Angry locals and Kanwariyas who witnessed the incident allegedly assaulted the truck driver before police arrived. Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash.
As news of the accident spread, distraught parents rushed to the hospital. Police and administrative officials also arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Inspector-in-charge Vishnukant Tiwari confirmed that the injured children were receiving medical attention and stated that a thorough investigation is underway.
