New Delhi : Separatists in the Kashmir valley are again flexing muscles because of a new assurance coming from Sartaj Aziz, the foreign affairs advisor to the Pakistan Prime Minister, that Islamabad backs the 1948 UN resolution for plebiscite to decide the fate of Kashmir.

Aziz told a couple of separatist leaders in separate meetings in the Pakistan High Commission here on Sunday that former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s policy on the region, which was a major change in the traditional approach on Kashmir, was a “mistake” and the present government has trashed a 4-point peace formula advanced by him through the back channels in 2006 for solution to the Kashmir problem lingering for the past over six decades.
Musharraf had proposed an effective road map for peace in Kashmir that included turning the Line of Control (LoC) between two Kashmirs (J&K and Pak-occupied Kashmir) into a soft border allowing free movement of people and trade.
Self-governance, demilitarisation and joint management of Kashmir by India, Pakistan and Kashmir through a group to address the common issues like trade, tourism and river
waters.
