Chennai: A senior IPS officer in Chennai has been suspended from service following complaints lodged by two women police personnel accusing him of sexually harassing them. The DIG rank officer D Magesh Kumar was serving as Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic, North) in Greater Chennai Police limits. He is the third senior police officer in Tamil Nadu to face sexual harassment charges in recent years.
About The Case
Police sources said two women constables had lodged complaints with the Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal alleging that Magesh Kumar had sexually harassed them. Following this, the officer was placed in Vacancy Reserve category and the complaint was probed by the Internal Complaints Committee headed by a senior woman IPS officer.

Based on the preliminary findings of the Committee, Magesh Kumar was placed under suspension by the Home Department.
In June last year, a trial court had convicted former Special DGP Rajesh Das to three years imprisonment after finding him guilty of sexually harassing a woman officer who was posted as Superintendent of Police. Likewise, in 2018, senior IPS officer Murugan was accused by his colleague of sexually harassing him. The trial against him in the case is pending.
