A Mohali court on Friday convicted self-styled Christian pastor Bajinder Singh in 2018 rape case. The court will pronounce sentencing on April 1, as per reports.
According to reports, the court acquitted five other accused in the case. After receiving the complaint from the victim, Bajinder was booked under sections 76, 420, 354, 294, 323, 506, 148, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, there was an atmosphere of joy among the victims after the court's decision. Speaking to the media, the husband of the 2018 rape case survivor said that the pastor had continuously avoided court appearances by citing illness and other excuses. He misled the court and traveled abroad, but they never gave up their fight.
He claimed that they faced immense pressure and threats during the trial. The victim's husband also mentioned that he had been in jail for six months. But with the support of the government and the people, they finally got justice.
He stated that God has punished the pastor for his misdeeds, and they now demand the harshest punishment to set an example so that no one dares to commit such crimes in the future.
"True victory of justice"
Victim's advocate Anil Sagar confirmed the report and stated, "No detailed order has been issued yet, but justice has been served. I would say that the prosecution should be credited for its thorough work. Additionally, something happened or is happening with other girls, for whom this is a huge relief. For us, this is a true victory of justice."
A few days ago, a video of Bajinder Singh had surfaced, in which he was seen slapping a woman and assaulting one of his employees. Following this, another case was registered against him.
