Kolkata: Tug of war started between Bharatiya Janata Party BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal over the celebration of Ram Navami on April 6.

BJP state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar said that the saffron camp is ready to counter back if there is any obstruction in taking out Ram Navami processions.

“We are afraid that there will be untoward incidents on Ram Navami. Last year tension took place in Howrah’s Shibpur and when I went there, I was not allowed to enter,” said Majumdar.

Citing the example of ‘good governance’ in Yogi Adityanath's rule in Uttar Pradesh and BJP regime in Gujarat, Majumdar vows to bring solidarity and peace during Ram Navami, where Muslims will be offering ‘sherbats’ to Hindus during Ram Navami rallies, once they come to power in Bengal.

“After BJP comes to power, like Gujarat and UP, Muslims will serve ‘sherbats’ and sprinkle flowers on Ram Navami rallies. Eid will also be celebrated peacefully,” further mentioned the BJP state president.

TMC Canning (East) MLA Saukat Molla said that this year he will also take part in Ram Navami celebrations.

“The committee organizing Ram Navami procession has invited me and I will attend the same. In Bengal people of every religion stay together,” added the TMC MLA.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that people will not accept those who run businesses in the name of religion.

Meanwhile, ADG South Bengal, Supratim Sarkar said that strict action will be taken against those who will spread ‘hatred’ during Ram Navami and Eid celebrations.

Sarkar also urged everyone to maintain peace and tradition of Bengal during the festivities.
