All municipal bodies of Rajasthan would go into polls by November this year under the One State One Election policy.

This was informed by the minister of Urban Development and Housing, Jhabar Singh Kharra in the Rajasthan Vidhansabha on Wednesday.

“Municipal elections in Rajasthan are conducted in 8 phases. This leads to frequent imposition of code of conduct, which creates hindrance in development, so we are taking legal opinion regarding holding elections of all municipal bodies simultaneously,” said the minister.

The delimitation of panchayats and municipal bodies is going on in the state. The minister said that the voter lists will be updated after the delimitation process, so the government is planning to hold the election by November this year.

Regarding the requirement of EVMs for conducting simultaneous elections, the minister said that we have sufficient EVMs and if required, EVMs will be arranged from neighbouring states.

Notably, there are about 300 municipal bodies in the state and the tenure of all is different because the last elections were held in eight phases. About 56 municipal bodies have completed their tenure but instead of holding elections there, the state government has appointed administrators so that elections can be held under One State One Election.
