Jaipur: Heavy rains lashed Rajasthan over the past two days, throwing normal life out of gear. On Monday, a road caved in near a metro station in Jaipur, forming a sinkhole nearly 12 feet wide. It raised safety concerns in the area near the metro line. Authorities cordoned off the area to avoid any untoward incident.

According to India Today, three large potholes also appeared beneath the metro bridge. The traffic was diverted.

On Sunday, a wall of a residential society collapsed. The incident was caught on camera, and the video is now doing the rounds on social media. In the video, it can be seen that a man was standing next to the gate of his house when the wall collapsed. Due to the collapse, one part of the gate of the house also fell into the adjacent vacant area. Several vehicles parked in the lane of the society were damaged.

Notably, a circulation system over Madhya Pradesh has intensified into a low-pressure area and is currently situated over the northeastern part of the state and adjoining regions, reported PTI, quoting a MeT official.

Due to the system, heavy to very heavy downpour was witnessed in parts of Kota, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions, while several other places received extremely heavy rain. Khatauli in Kota district recorded the highest rainfall at 198 mm. Pali in western Rajasthan received 167 mm of rain till Monday morning.

Five youths were swept away in the Chambal River Monday afternoon after the water level suddenly rose following the release of water from 12 gates of the Kota Barrage.

Rajasthan Weather Update:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Kota, Ajmer and Jodhpur divisions on July 15, with isolated places expected to receive extremely heavy rain.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rain may continue in some areas of Bikaner, Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions. As per the weather forecast agency, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Jodhpur, Bikaner and Ajmer divisions.

Rainfall activity is expected to reduce over eastern Rajasthan from July 17 and over western Rajasthan from July 18, the weather department said.
