Rajasthan: Massive Wildfire Rages In Udaipur’s Sajjangarh Sanctuary For Fourth Day, No Casualties Reported

Jaipur: A wildfire has engulfed About 50 hectares of area of Sajjangarh Sanctuary of Udaipur. 14 fire tenders have been working to control the fire as it continues to rage for the fourth day on Friday.

The fire had erupted on March 4 and was concentrated in Bhairu Bagh and its surrounding areas near the Sanctuary but now, the flames have reached near the hills of Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace and animal cages in the sanctuary, No casualty had been reported until Friday afternoon.

Looking at the fire, the entry of tourists has been stopped in Monsoon Palace, situated on a hill near the Sanctuary and Biological Park, while more than 10 families adjacent to this Sanctuary were evacuated.

The officials said that the sanctuary houses several wild animals, including leopards and foxes, however no casualties have been reported so far. Foresters have been stationed around the park for 24-hour monitoring, Additional labourers have been deployed to ensure the safety of the animals.

As per official, the fire is flaring up due to wind and dry grass. Fire Officer Shivram Meena said that due to change in wind direction, this fire is moving upwards. More than 150 employees are deployed on the spot. This includes employees of forest, fire brigade and police department.

Udaipur district collector Namit Mehta said to the media that all fire tenders are present on-site, and the residential area near Sajjangarh is now out of danger. The fire near the Biological Park has also been extinguished but the administration still putting in efforts, and the forest department is also involved,” .
