In a dramatic turn of events, a son refused to allow his mother's cremation until he received her silver bangles in Rajasthan's Kotputli-Behror district
According to reports, the incident took place on May 3 at Leela Ka Bas village in the Virat Nagar area, where 80-year-old Bhuri Devi had passed away. As hundreds of villagers gathered to pay their respects and the family prepared for the funeral, what should have been a solemn ceremony instead became a two-hour standoff.
Om Prakash, the fifth of Bhuri Devi's seven sons, initially participated in the funeral procession normally, helping to carry his mother's bier to the cremation ground. However, once the funeral pyre was prepared, he suddenly climbed onto it and lay down beside his mother's body.
"Give me mother's silver bangles first, only then will I get up," Om Prakash reportedly shouted, causing shock among mourners.
According to local sources, the family had given Bhuri Devi's jewelry to her eldest son, Girdhari, following her death. When Om Prakash discovered this arrangement, he became enraged and chose the dramatic moment of his mother's cremation to make his demands.
Family members and villagers tried unsuccessfully to reason with Om Prakash as he continued his protest. After nearly two hours of chaos, someone was finally sent to retrieve the silver bangles from home. Only after receiving the jewelry did Om Prakash allow the cremation to proceed.
Reports suggest this dramatic episode stems from long-standing property disputes within the family. Om Prakash has been living separately from his brothers due to these ongoing disagreements.
