Punjab: Sudden Blackout In Amritsar, Sirens Sounded As 'Abundant Caution'; Authorities Urge Calm

Amritsar (Punjab), May 12: A sudden blackout has been initiated in Punjab's Amritsar on Monday (May 12) evening amid recent tensions between India and Pakistan. There are reports that the authorities have imposed the blackout as a precautionary measure. They have also asked the people to turn off their lights and stay away from windows.

A notice from the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar informed residents that a siren would signal the start of the blackout. People were told to switch off lights, stay away from windows and remain calm.

Officials assured the public that the move was only a safety step and not a reason to panic. Power will be restored once it is safe.

The notice issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar at 8:45 PM on Monday (May 12) read, "You will hear a siren. We are on alert and initiating the blackout. Please switch off your lights and move away from your windows. Stay calm, we will inform when ready to restore the power supply. Don't panic at all. This is by way of abundant caution."

A similar notice was also issued on Sunday (May 11) by the District Collector. The District Collector informed that people that sirens will sound as a red alert has been issued. The notice read, "We have restored power supply for your convenience, but we are still on red alert. Sirens will sound now, indicating this red alert. Please don't move out of your house; stay indoors and away from windows. We will be informing you when we get the green signal. Please ensure compliance and please don't panic."
