Chandigarh: Ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anmol Gagan Maan on Saturday announced to resign as the MLA from Kharar and quit politics.
A former minister in the AAP government, Anmol submitted her resignation to the Punjab assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and said (in Punjabi) on X: "My heart is heavy, but I have decided to quit politics. My resignation from the post of MLA to the Speaker should be accepted at the earliest. My best wishes are with the party. I hope the Punjab government will live up to the expectations of the people’’.
According to information, Anmol had submitted her resignation to the Speaker about a month ago and the party had also been trying to persuade her to reconsider her decision.
Anmol, who briefly served as a minister with tourism, culture, investment promotion, labour and hospitality portfolios, was dropped in the Cabinet reshuffle in September last year.
An alumna of MCM DAV College, Sector 36, Chandigarh, Anmol was also a known singer before coming to politics. She joined AAP in 2021 and trounced Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD’s) Ranjit Singh Gill by a huge margin of over 37,000 votes in 2022 polls. It may be recalled that Gill had quit SAD on Friday and he is likely to join BJP, according to media reports.
AAP COLLAPSING: CONG
Meanwhile, the Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that the AAP has started collapsing, “brick by brick” as two sitting MLAs are already out of the party and many may follow.
Reacting to the resignation of Kharar MLA Anmol from her seat and politics, which, he held, obviously means from the party, Warring said she was the second party legislator within less than a month to be out of the party.

He pointed out, less than a month ago, the party suspended Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh. “Rate at which the MLAs have started to quit or are made to quit, suggests that the party's countdown has begun sooner than we expected”, he remarked.
