Chandigarh: Uncertainty over the retaliation by Pakistan and fake advisories after India’s Op Sindoor, led to panic buying among the residents of border city of Amritsar on Wednesday.

A number of people could be seen visiting bazaars in the morning – after the news pertaining to the ``Op Sindoor’’ spread with time – to stock grocery items and other utility items and queues of vehicles were seen at petrol stations in most parts of the city in the morning.

There were reports of panic buying of ration, eatables, medicines and fuels in several parts of the city, even as some of the shopkeepers also claimed that they were already out of stocks of several items by the afternoon. The orders to shut schools in the border areas by the government also fuelled the people’s fears leading to panic buying.

However, even as fake advisories in the regard were also seen on social platforms asking people to stock up on cash, fuel, medicines and emergency supplies in the wake of conflict at the border, there was a let-up in the panic buying after the administration issued notices and warning against such fake advisories.

Stating that no such advisories have been issued, the administration also warned the public against such panic-inducing misinformation.
