Punjab News: 40-Year-Old Covid-19 Patient From Firozabad Dies In Chandigarh Hospital

The GMCH medical superintendent Dr G P Thami said that the patient, who worked in Ludhiana had been referred to GMCH on Tuesday with respiratory problems and was also tested positive for Covid-19. He was admitted in isolation in the hospital’s Covid-19 ward, Dr Thami said.

Chandigarh: A 40-year old man from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, who was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, here, after testing positive for Covid-19 from Ludhiana on May 26, died on Wednesday.

The hospital authorities have yet not given a statement whether it was the latest JN.1 variant. This is, however, the first confirmed Covid-19 case in Chandigarh amid the recent surge in the infection across the country.

The GMCH medical superintendent Dr G P Thami said that the patient, who worked in Ludhiana had been referred to GMCH on Tuesday with respiratory problems and was also tested positive for Covid-19. He was admitted in isolation in the hospital’s Covid-19 ward, Dr Thami said.

It may be recalled that while a 25-year old man was tested positive for Covid-19 in Ferozepur on Tuesday following which the state government had stepped up all the preventive measures including keeping a track of all those who came in contact with the Covid-19 patients.

This patient, who works in a private company in Gurugram, had come to his parents in Ferozepur to stay for a few days. He was quarantined at his home only, health officials said, adding that there was no need for panic as all the precautionary measures had been taken.

A 51-year old woman, a native of Yamunanagar, Haryana, had also tested positive for Covid-19 at a private hospital in Mohali.

However, in the wake of the death, the health authorities in the region are likely to further step up the monitoring as well as response measures to prevent its spread.

12 PATIENTS IN HARYANA

Meanwhile, according to official information, there are 12 Covid positive cases in Haryana. Gurugram and Faridabad continued to report most of the cases – six and five respectively, though, out of five cases of Faridabad, three patients had recovered. While one patient was admitted in a hospital in Gurugram, the remaining all are in home isolation.
