Chandigarh: Punjab police on Monday claimed to have busted a trans-border drug, weapons trafficking module by arresting eight persons, including two porters working at the Attari Integrated Check Post in Amritsar.
Stating that the accused who were staying as paying guests in Kabir Park area near Guru Nanak Dev University here, police said were identified as Jagroop Singh, Karandeep Singh, Gursewak Singh, Nishan Singh, Varinder Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Lovepreet Singh and Jugraj Singh.
The police seized from their possession 4.5 kg heroin, six weapons, including two Glock pistols and a .30 bore Zigana pistol, 14 live 9 mm bullets among 16 rounds, Rs 1.5 lakh drug money, a car, a bike, three weighing machines and 10 mobile phones. The estimated value of the seized heroin in the international market is around Rs 23 crore.
The gang used to retrieve contraband and weapons smuggled via drones along the International Border and later stored those at their PG accommodation.
DALLA’S 4 AIDES HELD WITH 3 PISTOLS
Meanwhile, in another case, the Punjab police also claimed to have arrested four operatives of Canada-based terrorist Arsh Dalla and another foreign based-handler and recovered three .32 calibre pistols along with 16 cartridges from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Gagandeep Singh and Navjot Singh alias Nishu, both residents of Amloh in Fatehgarh Sahib and currently staying at a rental accommodation in Kharar and Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Bhadson in Patiala and Vipanpreet Singh, a resident of Faridkot.
Apart from recovering arms and ammunition, police teams have also impounded their white swift car, in which they were travelling.
Stating that all the accused had several cases registered against them, the police held that the module was linked with radical Arsh Dala and were planning to execute more crimes in Punjab at his behest.
