Chhattisgarh (CG) and Uttar Pradesh Police have traded charges against each other over the arrest of a TV news anchor who had tarnished the image of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a programme.
A team from CG police had raided the Ghaziabad residence of the news anchor on Tuesday to arrest him on the basis of a warrant issued by the Raipur court. The police team from Chhattisgarh was allegedly stopped by UP cops, which reached there, and instead arrested the anchor in a different case.
On Wednesday, the Chhattisgarh police officially lodged a complaint in UP accusing the cops belonging to Indrapuram police station in Ghaziabad of stopping them from performing duties.
In the complaint, the CG police accused that while they were serving the arrest warrant to the news anchor, the local cops from Indrapuram reached there and stopped them from doing so.
Not only this, the CG police said that the news anchor was taken away to the Indrapuram police station and they were not even allowed to serve the warrant.
The CG police have given the complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ghaziabad, which has also accused the cops of Indrapuram of manhandling them during the raid.
The SSP Ghaziabad has handed over the complaint to SP Crime of the district, who will now investigate the matter.
