New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked Congress for causing a deadlock in the Parliament while speaking at the Parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday. The PM said that the party is neither interested in debate, nor is allowing Parliament to function.
PM Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP chief JP Nadda, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and other BJP leaders attended the BJP Parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday.
Attacking the Congress at the BJP Parliamentary party meeting, PM Narendra Modi said that the Congress stops the House to run and they did not even attend the all-party meeting that was called on the issue of vaccination.
Sources said the prime minister also asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs to expose the opposition parties as the government is ready for a discussion but they are not.
The PM also asked the BJP MPs to mark the 75 years of independence by organising programmes in each village of their constituencies, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said. PM Modi asked the BJP MPs to form a team of two party workers in each Assembly segment, which will organise the programmes and seek suggestions and ideas from people on how they envisage India in 2047, when the country will complete 100 years of independence.
The prime minister told the MPs that these teams of two BJP workers will visit 75 villages in each Assembly constituency and spend 75 hours in each constituency, Meghwal said. He also emphasised on the digital literacy of people in rural India so that they can avail maximum benefits of the government welfare schemes, the minister said.
Proceedings in Rajya Sabha were repeatedly disrupted on Monday as opposition members protested on the phone-tapping, farm laws and other issues and demanded a discussion after the suspension of regular business.
The agitated members pressed the Chair to allow the Leader of Opposition to speak and created an uproar, forcing five adjournments.
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said members are being prevented from raising issues of public importance by such conduct.
Amid the din, Naidu said he has not allowed notices under Rule 267 by opposition leaders including from Mallikarjun Kharge and K C Venugopal (both Congress), Tiruchi Siva (DMK), TMC's Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Elamaram Kareen (CPI) and others as the issues they want to raise are being discussed in the normal course of time.
The BJP had also held a parliamentary party meeting on July 20 before the commencement of proceedings on the second day of the monsoon session.
The meeting was attended by all MPs of the party including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
