A 27 year old woman, identified as Sumitra Kaur from Baza Ghat, Pilibhit, attempted self-immolation near the Chief Minister's residence in Lucknow on Monday morning. She doused herself with a flammable substance but was intercepted by the anti self immolation squad before she could light it. The squad seized the material and matches from her and handed her over to Gautam Palli police.

The incident occurred around 11 AM. Sumitra, who identifies as a portal journalist, arrived with her brother Mandeep Singh and niece. During police questioning, she alleged that her attempt was a desperate measure due to police inaction on a case she filed in May.

She claims to have registered a report on May 14 at Hazara police station in Pilibhit, accusing individuals of trespassing and harassment. Sumitra stated that the police have not properly investigated or taken any action on her complaint, and she is demanding a CBCID inquiry into the matter.

ACP Hazratganj Vikas Jaiswal confirmed that Sumitra had filed a complaint in Pilibhit and stated that Pilibhit police have been informed to gather more details. The woman has been sent for a medical examination.
