New Delhi: Amid ongoing escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a spree of misinformation is being spread across the border after India carried out Operation Sindoor targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Several Pakistani social media handles falsely claimed that their army carried out a missile attack on the military base in Amritsar and inflicted heavy damage.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) debunked these claims. The PIB pointed out that the video, which was being shared by Pakistani social media handles, is of a wildfire from 2024.
"Pakistan Propaganda Alert! Pakistan-based handles are spreading old videos falsely alleging strikes on a military base in Amritsar. The video being shared is from a wildfire from 2024," the PIB said.
The government also advised people not to fall into the trap of the Pakistani propaganda and avoid sharing unverified information.
"Avoid sharing unverified information and rely only on official sources from the Government of India for accurate information," it added.
Meanwhile, panic gripped Amritsar's Jethuwal village after missile parts were found, reported The Tribune. Locals claimed that they heard a loud explosion at night. However, the police denied these claims. "There was neither any explosion nor any impact on the ground," said SSP Amritsar rural Maninder Singh as quoted by the media house. Police officials are reportedly examining the debris.
India on Wednesday carried out Operation Sindoor in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists. Among the deceased was a Nepali citizen and a local pony ride operator.
In the precision strikes, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror camps were destroyed.
