New Delhi, February 20, 2025: A female journalist identified as Suryanshi Pandey recently took to Instagram to share a disturbing experience of harassment she faced while returning home from Lajpat Nagar to Sant Nagar around 10:30 PM on Monday (February 17). In her heartfelt post, she expressed gratitude that nothing serious happened but felt compelled to speak out against the repeated harassment women face in the national capital. The woman has filed a police complaint in connection with the matter.
Recounts The Horror
In her post, she recounted how a group of young men in a car behaved in an inappropriate manner, making her feel uncomfortable and unsafe. She said that the youngsters sitting in the car called her out and asked her to come to them. She said that they shouted, "Oye! Come Here." The remark passed by them made her uncomfortable in the middle of the road. She highlighted that such experiences have sadly become a routine reality for women in Delhi.
Women's Clothing?
The journalist went on to question the safety of women in the national capital, asking what such incidents reflect about Delhi’s social environment. She also strongly countered the idea that a woman's clothing determines her safety, stating that women face harrassment regardless of whether they wear a burqa, full-length clothes, or a bikini.
Her post has since gone viral, sparking conversations about women’s safety in Delhi and the persistent issue of street harassment. Many social media users expressed solidarity with her, urging authorities to take stricter action against the culprits.

She posted on her social media and said, "This incident happened around 10:30pm when I was returning from Lajpat Nagar market to Sant Nagar. By god's grace, nothing of grave intensity happened. A bunch of rash boys in a car did something that I am compelled to share this with you."
The post further read, "It is not the first time that a woman in Delhi has been sexually appropriated, lucid remarks passed on or has faced obscenity. We are in general now accustomed to handle such situation on a daily basis whether around bus stop or metro or anywhere else but what does it reflect upon our capital of India, Delhi?"
"You wear full length clothes, burqa or bikini, you are an object of obscenity for dirty minds. So next time if someone will talk about women NOT being decent in their dressing, LOOK INTO THE MIRROR, DEMON IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU," she concluded.

This incident once again raises concerns about the state of women's safety in urban India, where despite various laws and awareness campaigns, public spaces remain unsafe for many.

The police have registered a complaint in connection with the matter, however, no arrests have been made. The police are investigating the matter.
