Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has once again found itself embroiled in controversy. A notice from the university about a change in the Sunday menu, specifically the serving of beef biryani at Suleman Hall, has gone viral on social media, sparking strong reactions from Hindu organizations. However, the Proctor denied any change, attributing the notice to a typographical error.

The notice, which circulated on Saturday, February 8, was signed by Mohammad Faizullah and Mujassim Ahmed Bhati of the Senior Food Dining Hall. "This Sunday’s lunch menu has been modified based on popular demand. Instead of Chicken Biryani, we will be serving Beef Biryani. This change is in response to numerous requests from our resident members. We hope you enjoy the new addition," the notice read.

Clarifying the error in the notice, AMU Proctor, Professor Mohammad Wasim Ali told ETV Bharat, "A notice was issued regarding the change in the menu of Suleman Hall. This was a typing mistake. No change has been made to the menu. Food will be served as per the existing menu chart. Senior Food Dining Hall had issued this notice on its level."

The notice met with heavy backlash on social media, with several users and Hindu leaders demanding stringent action against AMU's Vice Chancellor. Tagging the Aligarh Police, Hindusena wrote on X, "Look Now Aligarh Muslim university now offering Beef Biryaani. We want them to be punished please take appropriate action."

"Aligarh Muslim University administration is running a parallel government? A notice claims beef biryani will replace chicken, despite UP's strict beef ban. Is this an attempt to stir controversy or a blatant violation? Authorities must investigate," wrote another user.
