In the wake of the recent tragic attack in Pahalgam, the Punjab Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday announced a calibrated decision to scale down the ceremonial display during the Retreat Ceremony at Attari, Hussainiwala, and Sadki in Punjab.

In a post on X, the official handle of BSF Punjab stated that there will be no symbolic handshake between the Indian Guard Commander and the counterpart Guard Commander during the Retreat Ceremony. It added that this step reflects India's serious concern over cross-border hostilities and reaffirms that peace and provocation cannot coexist.

The post also mentioned that the gates will remain closed during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, a flag meeting between BSF officials and Pakistan Rangers is underway to bring back a constable who inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan on Wednesday afternoon in Punjab's Ferozepur sector.

According to reports, the jawan is currently in the custody of the Pakistan Rangers. He was accompanying farmers who had gone beyond the fence to cultivate their land.

Following Tuesday's devastating terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 28 people while wounding numerous others, new security measures are being implemented. This marks one of the most lethal incidents in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack that resulted in the deaths of 40 CRPF personnel.
