Lucknow: Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow will suspend flight services from 10 AM to 6 PM between March 1 and July 15 for the recarpeting of runway 09/27, aiming to enhance passenger safety and operational efficiency. Airlines will adjust their schedules to operate flights before 10 AM and after 6 PM during this period, while the airport will implement strategies to minimize disruptions for passengers and airlines.

The existing runway, which has served effectively over the years, requires an upgrade for improved performance and reliability. The recarpeting will enhance texture, grip, shape, durability, and overall operational effectiveness.

Details Of Maintenance Work

The runway, measuring 2,744 metres long and 45 metres wide, with an additional 7.5-metre shoulder on each side, was last resurfaced in 2018. The recarpeting process involves milling the current surface followed by a bituminous inlay and overlay, adhering to regulatory design specifications. In total, 1.80 lakh square metres, including the runway and taxiways, will be recarpeted.

To facilitate quicker aircraft movement, a new full-length parallel taxiway will be constructed, along with an additional taxiway, P9. The airfield project will also upgrade the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system from halogen to LED, significantly reducing power consumption by at least 50%. This comprehensive upgrade plan aims to enhance the airport's operational capabilities and service quality for travelers.

To enhance the efficiency of aircraft movement post-landing or pre-takeoff, CCSI Airport plans to construct a new full-length parallel taxiway spanning 2,744 meters. Additionally, a new taxiway P9 will also be developed during this period. The runway upgrade includes transitioning the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) from halogen to LED, along with enhancing airfield signage. This LED switch is projected to cut power consumption by at least 50%.

The initiative for runway improvement was triggered by CCSI Airport after consultations with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and airlines, which facilitated the arrangement of flights and decreased cancellations. During the runway recarpeting process, the airport will manage 132 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) daily. However, some flight schedules may undergo modifications, prompting travelers to check with their airlines for any updates or changes.

The resurfacing of runway 09/27 represents CCSI Airport's unwavering commitment to upgrading its infrastructure and services. As a significant entry point in India, Lucknow Airport is dedicated to investing in initiatives that promote its development and growth. Successfully executing this project will not only reinforce the airport's position as an emerging aviation hub but also contribute to the region's economic advancement.
