Kaithal: In a disturbing case from Haryana's Kaithal district, a 29-year-old woman has been accused of killing her newborn son, allegedly born out of an extramarital relationship, while her husband has been living abroad for three years. The infant’s body was discovered stuffed in a school bag and hidden in a cattle shed behind the house.

According to the police, the woman gave birth at night at her home, reportedly with the help of two other women who later left before dawn. Preliminary investigation reveals she stuffed the baby’s mouth with ash and strangled him with a scarf. The cries of the newborn were reportedly heard by neighbours, though no none realised the extent of the tragedy that was unfolding next door.

DNA Samples Collected

Police have filed a case under charges of murder and destruction of evidence. DNA samples have also been collected from the infant to confirm the biological link with the accused.

The two women who allegedly assisted during the delivery are also under investigation. As per a report by News 18, Cheeka police station in-charge Balbir Singh said, “As soon as her health becomes normal, she will be taken on police remand and further investigation will be done.” He also clarified that her alleged affair would not be a legal matter, stating, “It is her personal issue.”

Complaint by Mother-in-Law Led to Probe

The case came to light after the woman’s mother-in-law, a widow, filed a police complaint. In her statement, she said her son had been working in Portugal since 2015 and had not returned for the last three years. She alleged her daughter-in-law’s behaviour changed after her son left. “I saw her bulging belly and asked if she was pregnant. She kept saying it was due to water logging,” the mother-in-law said, as quoted by News 18.

On June 11, after hearing of a possible abortion, the family informed police. The next day, the dead infant was discovered wrapped in a school bag in the cattle shed. A thorough investigation is currently underway.
