Popular educator and social media personality Khan Sir tied the knot in a grand wedding reception in Patna earlier this month, attended by prominent academics and politicians. However, the event has drawn mixed reactions online, particularly over his wife AS Khan’s decision to wear a purdah (veil) during the public celebrations.
While many congratulated the couple, others expressed disappointment. Journalist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj remarked, "Everyone saw Khan Sir. No one saw Khan Sir’s wife. No matter how progressive [he claims to be]... less said, the better!"
Criticism intensified as users questioned the contrast between Khan Sir’s public stance on women’s freedom and his wife’s veiling. One user wrote, "After opposing the ghoonghat and burqa his whole life, Khan Sir himself [keeps] his wife in one."
Another added, "A teacher with millions of young followers, what is he teaching them? To confine their wives? He profits from videos on ‘women’s freedom’ but enforces purdah on his wife in 45-degree heat on her wedding day."
Further comments highlighted perceived hypocrisy, "No matter how progressive a Muslim claims to be, their true mindset reflects at home. A teacher can lecture society but fails to lead by example."
One sarcastic post noted, "Women empowerment speeches echo from the mic, yet the wife remains behind a curtain. This is the 21st century, Sir—not a Mughal court. Curtain call, indeed."
Khan Sir, known for his motivational lectures, has yet to respond to the criticism.
