BJP national president and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Saturday urged party MLAs and MPs in Odisha to build strong grassroots connections and actively participate in developmental activities. He made the remarks while inaugurating a three-day training camp for BJP lawmakers in Puri.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Ministers Jual Oram, Dharmendra Pradhan, Ashwini Vaishnaw, state BJP president Manmohan Samal, and several party MPs and MLAs were present.
Addressing the gathering, Nadda outlined 14 key responsibilities for lawmakers, stressing humility, discipline, and people-centric engagement. He advised representatives to connect with diverse sections—elders, Dalits, women—by visiting villages and integrating with local communities.
“This training is for MLAs and MPs to understand their duties toward the party and the people,” said Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi. Media access was restricted to the event’s inaugural session.
Nadda highlighted BJP’s growing strength, noting that the NDA currently governs 19 of 35 states and union territories, with BJP alone in power in 13. He also said 13.5 crore people have voluntarily joined BJP in just three and a half months, calling it a reflection of the party’s strong ideological base.
Urging leaders to shed ego and work in unity, Nadda also advised them to spend time in public spaces like hospitals to understand real issues. He shared a list of dos and don'ts for elected representatives.
Union Minister Jual Oram emphasized BJP’s unique system of training at all levels. The ongoing training focuses on governance, organizational functioning, ideological clarity, and implementation of promises.
Nadda also launched the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Odisha on Friday, fulfilling a BJP poll promise. The training camp concludes on April 13.
