NaMo to launch 3 urban missions on Thursday

NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his vision for new strides in transformation of the urban India with mayors and chairpersons of 500 municipal corporations and municipalities here on Thursday, while launching three major initiatives of smart cities mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu hosting the two-day meet of the civic bodies’ heads hailed June 25 as a “Red Letter Day” in the history of urban development with simultaneous launch of AMRUT, PMAY and Smart Cities Mission.

Amrut is to ensure basic infrastructure, PMAY will enable the urban poor to own decent and affordable houses while the quality of life is promised to be better in 100 identified cities and towns under the Smart Cities vision. Also attending the 2-day intensive interaction meet will be the state ministers of urban development, municipal affairs and housing as also municipal commissioners and ambassadors and high commissioners of 15 countries who have shown keen interest to be associated with the smart cities mission and other urban development efforts. While Venkaiah Naidu will address the congregation on the paradigm shift in the new urban missions, former urban development minister Ananth Kumar and power minister Piyush Goyal will also address the delegates.
