Amid the mudslinging between political leaders in Delhi ahead of the Assembly polls, Delhi CM and AAP leader Atishi became teary-eyed during a press conference as she responded to BJP's Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri's controversial remark against her father.
Atishi, who was accompanied by AAP's Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha during the press conference, said, "My father is so unwell that he can't even walk without support. For the elections, they (Ramesh Bidhuri) would stoop to such low behavior that they would resort to abusing an elderly person. I could never have imagined that the politics of this country could fall to such a low level."
Atishi's response came a day after Bidhuri made a comment about her father while addressing an election rally, claiming that Atishi "changed her father."
Earlier, Bidhuri sparked controversy with his remarks, stating that he would construct roads as smooth as Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks.
Notably, the BJP leader is contesting against the Delhi CM from the Kalkaji Assembly seat in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. "This Marlena (Delhi CM Atishi) became Singh. She changed her name. Arvind Kejriwal swore on his children not to form an alliance with the corrupt Congress. Marlena changed her father. This reflects the character of the AAP," Bidhuri said.
Bidhuri further claimed that Atishi's parents had submitted a mercy petition against the death sentence of Afzal Guru, the mastermind behind the 2001 Parliament attack. "I want to ask the people of Delhi whether they want to support those who sought a pardon for Guru’s death sentence," the BJP leader added.
