Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after visiting violence strike Murshidabad on Monday slammed the NDA led central government for allegedly spreading violence and for alleged failure to protect the country’s border.
The West Bengal Chief Minister also appealed to the central government to bring back the arrested BSF jawan from Pakistan.
“Our party MP Kalyan Banerjee is in touch with the family of a BSF jawan who stays in Hooghly. Our government is also in constant touch with them. We want him to return at early as possible,” said Mamata.
Speaking at the violence hit Murshidabad, Mamata said that those who ignited violence are ‘enemies’ of Bengal.
“Some outsiders and a few religious leaders are trying to incite violence and animosity among communities. Did the NHRC team visit Uttar Pradesh or Manipur during violence? They were prompt to visit Murshidabad. Just like online payment platforms advertisements were given in newspapers after demonetization, similarly NHRC team reached soon after the incident in Murshidabad. The violence seemed to be pre-planned,” said Mamata.

Taking potshots at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mamata said, When you are in chair, you cannot divide the people. I also wanted to meet the families in which two people died to hand over the ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs. But the family members were taken away. Is this not kidnapping?” questioned the West Bengal Chief Minister.
The family members of the deceased person in Murshidabad said that they had not been kidnapped but voluntarily came to Kolkata to move the High Court.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari addressing a press conference said that he had got the information that places where Hindus reside in Murshidabad are barricaded so that they don’t ‘agitate’ in front of the Chief Minister.
“For the security of the Chief Minister several police personnels are deployed who hid when the violence took place. The residents of Murshidabad wanted a permanent camp of BSF as they said that the state police didn’t help them,” added Adhikari.
