Mumbai: The Office of the Assistant Divisional Engineer (Works), Byculla, has issued a seven-day notice to the trustees and caretakers of an unauthorized temple located near Central Railway's Platform No. 12, east side, behind the RPF office in Dadar. The notice, dated December 4, highlights the encroachment and demands the removal of the structure to facilitate ongoing railway development projects.
The notice ( FPJ has the copy) states that the unauthorized Hanuman temple obstructs the smooth movement of commuters, vehicular traffic, and critical infrastructure development work being carried out at Dadar station. The Railway Ministry has tasked the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation Limited with overseeing the station's modernization.

"The trustees have been instructed to dismantle the temple and vacate the railway land within seven days. Failure to comply will lead to forced removal of the structure by railway authorities at the trustees' expense" said an official.
Railway officials emphasized the need for strict action to ensure the timely completion of infrastructure projects and maintain public convenience. The development work at Dadar station is part of a larger initiative to enhance passenger facilities and streamline operations across the Central Railway network.

Local residents and commuters have expressed mixed reactions. While some support the railway's move, citing the need for better infrastructure and accessibility, others argue for a more balanced approach that respects religious sentiments.
A shop owner, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "The temple is very old and holds sentimental value for thousands of people." However a regular passenger Suresh Kamble (46) added, "Dadar is one of the busiest stations, and its development is crucial."
