In a move aimed at enhancing digital governance, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved Application Programming Interface (API) access for the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department’s new WhatsApp chatbot service.

Launched in early May, the chatbot available at 8005441222 allows citizens to access key transport-related services by simply exchanging messages on WhatsApp. Users can now obtain details on vehicle registration, driving licenses, challans, and application status without visiting transport offices. The integration is expected to reduce footfall in regional offices, improve transparency, and offer round-the-clock access to essential services.

The central government has assured that the platform follows strict data privacy norms and does not store or share sensitive citizen information. Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh stated that this service marks a step toward a smarter and more responsive transport system in Uttar Pradesh. The department is currently finalizing procedural formalities and plans to roll out the service to the public soon.

This development aligns with the broader goal of digital empowerment and convenience led governance in the state.
