New Delhi: A high-voltage debate on Operation Sindoor is set to take centre stage in Parliament next week, with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha allocating 16 hours each for discussion on the military offensive. According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to take part in the debate, after consistent demands from the Opposition for greater accountability and transparency.

The motion to initiate the discussion in the Rajya Sabha will be moved by BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya. The decision was finalised during a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting earlier today (July 23).

The Monsoon Session 2025 got underway in both houses of the Parliament on July 21, and is expected to end after 32 days.

Rahul Gandhi's Remarks

Reacting to the Centre’s decision to hold the debate, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister. “What will the Prime Minister say in Parliament? That Trump arranged the ceasefire? He can’t say that, because the world knows it’s true. Trump has said it 25 times, but who is Trump to interfere?” Gandhi said, adding that no country supported India during the conflict.

He further questioned the government’s narrative, saying, “On one hand, the PM says we have won; on the other, he says Operation Sindoor is still ongoing.”

In response, BJP leader Pradip Bhandari hit back, accusing Gandhi of echoing Pakistan’s rhetoric. “Rahul Gandhi doubts victory of our forces in Operation Sindoor! Pakistan should thank Rahul Gandhi for being more consistent in peddling Pakistani Narrative than Asim Munir,” Bhandari said.

High-Stakes Debate Expected In Both Houses

The discussion, scheduled for July 29, come after several days of sloganeering and disruptions in the Parliament. The Opposition has insisted that no other business be taken up until Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack are fully debated.

Sources told Indian Express that the Treasury Benches agreed to Opposition demands for the presence of both Prime Minister Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The debate will focus on the events of May 7, when India carried out coordinated strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the deadly Pahalgam attack.
