Agartala : Militants have kidnapped two tribal men in Tripura, police said Friday.

Police suspect that the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants might have kidnapped the tribals – Barendra Reang, 30 and Harendra Reang, 21.

“The incident took place Thursday when five armed NLFT extremists raided the huts of the two men at Gandachara in Tripura and abducted them,” Inspector General of police (police control) Nepal Das told IANS here.

“The rebels might have taken the hostages to Bangladesh as the place (Gandachara) is just two km away from the India-Bangladesh border. We have asked the Border Security Force to hold a flag meeting with the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) to rescue the captives,” Das said.

Senior district and police officials have rushed to Gandachara, 210 km from Agartala.

Police said this was the third terrorist incident in Tripura this year.

Earlier, three tribals were abducted by militants. The NLFT militants have been kidnapping people in Tripura and Mizoram to collect ransom.
