Mathura: Holi celebrations in Baati village, Chaumuha, turned violent on Friday, March 14, after a dispute over the application of colours escalated into stone pelting between two groups. The altercation, which reportedly began among children, quickly spread to the elders, resulting in injuries and unrest in the area.

A video of the entire incident was captured on camera, showing heavy stone pelting from both the sides.

The police responded swiftly upon receiving information about the altercation. Several individuals sustained serious injuries, and 8 to 10 people from one group were admitted to the district hospital for treatment. The injured have been identified as Rahul Halwai, Hirdesh, Kalua, Harichand, Basant Pandit, Rannu, Rohit, and Shiva, as per a report by Amar Ujala.

As per the report, Jait Police Station in-charge Ashwani Kumar stated that the dispute originated when two boys from the upper caste community allegedly tried to forcibly apply Holi colours in a Scheduled Caste locality. The residents objected, leading to an altercation that escalated into stone pelting.

The Mathura Police, in an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), also confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 108 against the accused.

The police further noted that out of the 32 individuals booked in connection with the violence, eight have been arrested. Authorities have pledged strict action against the remaining accused following further investigation.
