'Many Congress Leaders, Oppn Parties Supporting...': Union Minister Kiren Rijiju's BIG Statement Ahead Of Introduction Of Waqf Bill In Lok Sabha

Ahead of the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that several opposition MPs wanted the Bill to be passed despite their parties' stance against it for the vote bank.

New Delhi: Ahead of the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that several opposition MPs wanted the Bill to be passed despite their parties' stance against it. Notably, the Waqf Amendment Bill will be tabled by Rijiju in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

He said that the opposition leaders are opposing the bill just for the vote bank. The union minister also stated that some religious leaders were misleading innocent Muslims about the bill.

"Many Congress leaders and opposition parties privately say that this bill is needed, but they're opposing it for vote bank," the union minister told media.

"Some leaders, including some religious leaders, are misleading innocent Muslims... The same people said that CAA would take away the citizenship status of Muslims, but nothing like that happened," Rijiju told reporters.

Rijiju's Statement:

While speaking to reports, Rijiju said that bill is not just for the benefit of crores of Muslims but for the entire nation. "

"Today is a historic day as the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 will be presented in the Lok Sabha. I want to say clearly that this bill is not just for the benefit of crores of Muslims but for the entire nation. Any work that is in the national interest, especially for the welfare of women and children, will not be compromised," the Union Minister of Minority Affairs told reporters.

Ahead of the introduction of the Waqf Bill, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress issued whips to their MPs to ensure their presence in the House.

After the introduction of the bill, an 8-hour discussion will be held, which is also subject to an increase.In line with the BJP and Congress, their allies have also issued a whip to all their MPs to be present in the parliament on April 2 and 3.
