West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived 30 minutes late for a review meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on the impact of Cyclone Yaas in the state, news agency ANI reported.
As per the report, Banerjee arrived, handed over papers related to the impact of Cyclone Yaas and said that she had other meetings lined up and left.
In her defence, the Chief Minister said she was not made aware of the meeting in time. "Prime Minister called the meeting... we (her office) didn't know. I had a meeting in Digha (but) I went to Kalaikunda and gave the report asking for ₹ 20,000 crore. I told him you (state officials) wanted to meet me. I took his permission and left," Banerjee was quoted by news agency ANI.
Taking to Twitter, Banerjee wrote, "After having review meetings in Hingalganj & Sagar, I met the Hon’ble PM in Kalaikunda & apprised him regarding the post-cyclone situation in WB. The disaster report has been handed over for his perusal. I’ve proceeded now to review the relief & restoration work at Digha."
Meanwhile, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar slammed Banerjee for her "non-participation". "It would have served interests of state and its people for CM and officials @MamataOfficial to attend Review Meet by PM," he tweeted. "Confrontational stance ill serves interests of State or democracy. Non participation by CM and officials not in sync with constitutionalism or rule of law," he added.
