In a major relief to Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA and party's state unit chief Abu Azmi, a Mumbai court on Tuesday granted him anticipatory bail in the Aurangzeb remarks case.
Bail Conditions
The SP MLA was required to furnish a solvent surety bond of ₹20,000 as part of the bail conditions. The court also directed Azmi to present himself before the investigating officer on March 12, 13, and 15 between 11 am and 1 pm. Besides, the sessions court also cautioned him against tampering with any evidence linked to the case.
Earlier in the day Abu Azmi, posted on micro-blogging website X paying tributes to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
"Humble tributes to the second Chhatrapati of Swarajya, a mighty warrior, and a valiant warrior, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, on his martyrdom day," Azmi said in a post.
Abu Azmi's Statement
While responding to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's comparison of Rahul Gandhi to Aurangzeb, the SP leader had said that Aurangzeb was not a "cruel administrator" and had "built many temples." He added that the battle between Aurangzeb and the Maratha ruler was for state administration and not about religion."

Suspended From The Budget Session
Abu Azmi later apologized for his remarks and said that he had not expressed his opinion but had quoted historian's and authors, who had spoken the same about the Mughal emperor. However, Azmi was suspended after the assembly passed a motion unanimously to suspend him,
