Kolkata: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday praising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Mamata fought the battle alone and marked her victory against the BJP.
“The Bengalis have shown their sentiments and supported Mamata Banerjee against the BJP. The West Bengal had set an example how people can love their ethics and culture”, said Thackeray.
Echoing Thackeray, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders visiting West Bengal frequently didn’t work for the Bengali sentiments and also "that West Bengal had set example of strong love for their culture".
Asked about if Shiv Sena would support Mamata Banerjee as the new Prime Minister’s face to which Raut said, "it will be decided in all oppositions party meet".
Meanwhile, at a time when most of the opposition parties are praising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the landslide victory, leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari dared TMC to contest polls from outside West Bengal.
“While the TMC is now dreaming of going to Delhi, they should first contest a poll outside West Bengal and then they will come to know whether they are national party or not. Since election is due in Uttar Pradesh in February 2022, TMC should contest and check their fate in the state”, claimed Suvendu.
At a time when speculation is on that the TMC would call for another ‘United India’ rally as they have called ahead of 2024 parliamentary election, Suvendu said that despite a United India rally on January 19, 2019 none of the opposition party could beat the saffron camp.
“Today Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is wishing Mamata Banerjee for her win but these two leaders were not there in United India rally. Even with 18 opposition parties none could defeat Narendra Modi,” added Suvendu.
Incidentally, in the wake of alleged rise in post-poll violence, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari visited West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to seek his help to curb the violence.
